Comfortable training clothes you can move freely in such as leggings, shorts or tracksuit bottoms. Something that isn’t too baggy so Greville can see your alignment. During the colder months you might want to wear layers you can remove once warmed up. Classes are done barefoot; no trainers are required.
You will need a yoga mat – a thick one is best. You may also need a head cushion (a regular cushion or rolled up jumpers are good to begin with).
Pilates is often recommended for back ache and other joint problems. However, if your injury is new – you should make an appointment to see your doctor or therapist to make sure they are happy for you to join class. If you are referred by your doctor, physiotherapist or osteopath Greville can liaise with them (with your permission) to ensure he is helping you to exercise in the best way for your body.
If you injure yourself between classes, please inform Greville before the class so he can ensure you are safe to exercise. Many of the exercises can be modified to prevent further injury.

Pilates is for all ages and all abilities.
You’ll be taught a series of exercises on a mat – you need to bring your own (a thick yoga mat is perfect).
Some exercises will be standing, others will be laying down in one of several start positions. Pilates involve multiple repetitions of an exercise, before moving onto a new exercise. Beginners’ exercises are simple, Intermediate and Advanced exercises involve more complex choreography requiring a high degree of control and coordination.
Every body is different. Some people will notice the difference after just a few sessions. For others it may take a little longer. Like every type of exercise, the more you practice the faster you will progress and see the benefits.
No, I’m afraid not. All new clients must complete a PAR-Q Health Questionnaire which requires screening for suitability before attending class.
Classes are in blocks of 6 weeks. We do offer a taster course of 3 weeks so you can see if Pilates is right for you.
One of the things that sets Body Control Pilates apart from some other forms of exercise class is that the teacher tailor makes a program for the clients. A drop-in class would not be able to do that.
